The 2011 Elantra – ‘Best Value: Price to Pump’

By Kristin Keller

New in 2011, the Hyundai Elantra has become a top pick  for commuters in an uncertain economy.    Cars.com recently featured a ranking of  ‘Best Value: Price to Pump’ vehicles, and – not surprisingly – the 2011 Elantra topped their list.   They considered cars with the following factors:  minimum of 35 mpg fuel economy, seating for at least five, and a MSRP below $20,000.

From PRNewswire:  “With unrelenting gas prices and continued economic uncertainty, our shootout couldn’t be timelier in terms of what car shoppers are looking for,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.com editor-in-chief. “In fact, four of the five models that competed have been among dealer’s best sellers in April and May.  Based on our results, every car shopper looking in this segment needs to put the 2011 Hyundai Elantra at the top of their consideration set. Not only does this car get 40 mpg on the highway, the Elantra also has refined styling, solid handling, a comfortable interior and incredible affordability for all the features that buyers will get.”

Three days of testing by experts at Cars.com, USA Today, and a Chicago-area family were completed on eligible vehicles.  Cars.com’s ‘Best Value: Price to Pump’ rankings placed the Elantra #1, above Chevy Cruze, Honda Civic, Kia Forte, and Ford Focus.

Paint by Numbers

By Kristin Keller

In high school I traveled to Japan.  Among many other observations, I was struck by the lack of color on their automobiles.  Almost every car on the road was white.  It made me think about what a difference paint colors make in the appearance of a car.  It could be that I’m just a color-loving person.  I love looking at make-up at Sephora and paint swatch cards at Home Depot, and when I shop for a new sweater or a sofa for my apartment, color is typically one of my first considerations.  Dodge gets a lot of attention for eye-catching colors like Furious Fuschia and Plum Crazy, but drive past our Hyundai lot in Irvine and you’ll see a rainbow of vivid colors that bring out Hyundai’s unique styling.

Here are seven notes on automotive colors:

  1. Hyundai knows color! Any student who took art classes learned some basic color theory.  There is a little bit of science to it.  Hyundai takes even the basic colors and finds tones and finishes that create depth and luster.  For example, in red, they introduced Cabernet Pearl, Chilipepper, Tsukuba Red, and Sonoran Red, four different but individually beautiful shades.
  2. Don’t be shy! If you want something bold, there’s bright options like Interlagos Yellow or Mirabeau Blue.
  3. Basics don’t have to be boring! If you’re looking for something more subtle, no one makes more beautiful shades of grey, silver, white and black than Hyundai.  Their paints have just enough shimmer and gloss to set them apart from the other cars on the road.
  4. A good automotive paint is like a good nail polish. It has to have the right combination of luster, shine, depth, and brilliance.  And just like certain lipsticks don’t compliment every skin tone, not every color works on every bodystyle of vehicle.  Hyundai knows how to match colors to body shapes to create harmonious combinations.
  5. Keep maintenance in mind. Dark colored cars will show more dust, so if you don’t wash your vehicle regularly, stay away from dark colored paints.
  6. A fun fact about black. Women know black creates a flattering silhouette on the human body.  Not so on cars!  At the factory, only the straightest, most perfect automotive bodies get painted black.  This is because black paint makes any imperfections and blemishes more obvious.  So, buy a black vehicle knowing it had to be perfect to be painted black, but keep in mind your little dings from shopping carts will be harder to disguise.
  7. Here’s my personal favorite paint. A gorgeously refreshing shade that you won’t get tired of:  Ice blue.  It is slightly pearlescent with just a slight hint of aqua-green undertone.

Hyundai Equus Named A Top 10 Summer Sizzler By KBB.COM

Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com named the 2011 Equus to its Top 10 Summer Sizzlers list, a compilation of all-new early arrivals from the automotive class of 2011.  The Equus is Hyundai’s newest flagship, built on world-class rear-wheel-drive architecture and powered by the award-winning 4.6-liter Tau® V8.   Equus competes with the best luxury sedans in the world on all levels including amenities, performance, advanced technologies, design and ownership experience.

“With its cutting-edge technologies, bold style and unparalleled combination of luxury and value, Equus will attract a new type of buyer to the Hyundai brand,” said Scott Margason, director of Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America.  “Equus will help translate Hyundai’s successful formula for intelligent luxury into the retail and service environment so that owners get a high-end experience at a more affordable price point.”

The Top 10 Summer Sizzlers list profiles the 10 new vehicles that are most likely to excite consumers as the new 2011 model year begins.  This summer, automotive manufacturers from around the world have opened one of the most diverse and intensive product launch schedules in their collective history. Intent on jump-starting sales to accelerate the nascent auto industry recovery, they have begun filling U.S. showrooms with 2011 model-year rides.

We’re On A Roll!

It’s about time…we’re on a roll and proud of it. Hyundai is getting the respect and recognition that has been deserved for a long time. The product line is the best ever (if you’ve not been in a Genesis sedan or coupe, you’ve never driven a Hyundai), the warranty and Assurance programs are unmatched, and even the press loves Hyundai as much as our customers do.

So what’s the deal going forward? The cars in the pipeline look to be even more impressive. We’ve staffed our location with the best folks around: service, parts, product and more. And while it’s no secret that Hyundai has been setting sales records here, it still seems that every neighborhood has one or two people and their families that need to make the switch.

So what is it that you love about Hyundai? This is our home-away-from-home that you can share your thoughts on, post links and other ideas that you have in order to make us a better destination. Without you, our customers, we’d just be another good looking building in the Auto Mall…and thanks to you we’re not!
